Bed Bugs Infestations on the Gold Coast

The Gold Coast is facing an exponential increase in bedbug infestations. These apple-seed sized pests feed off domestic pets among other things however, it is their taste for human blood which makes them a real problem. They are easily transported from place to place by hiding in luggage and clothing. If you have spent any time travelling, then you may have come across bed bugs and accidentally brought them into your home.

Bedbugs are predominantly found where people sleep. This means staying in hotels or any type of accommodation where there are a number of guests staying overnight, can put you at risk of exposure. However, more and more cases of infestations have been identified as coming from public transport, cinemas, planes and second-hand furniture. We no longer need to be in bed to pick up bed bugs.

Some indications that you may have Bedbugs are;

- red, itchy marks on the skin appearing in clusters or rough lines, swelling or blistering are also common
- faecal spotting on bed linen, which is digested blood defecated by BedBugs
- the presence of cream coloured eggs as well as live Bedbugs in the folds of mattresses

Left untreated and with a regular food source, female bed bugs can lay up to 10 eggs a day and depending on weather conditions nymphs (newly hatched bedbugs) will be developed into reproducing adults in 3 to 6 weeks. The warmer the climate the faster their development.

If you suspect you have bed bugs contact CTS Termite & Pest Control on 1300 664 971 and arrange an inspection with one of our specialists. Do not attempt to control the infestation prior to a site assessment as this can only spread them further and lead to an increase in costs to control the infestation.The Gold Coast is facing an exponential increase in bedbug infestations.
